Privacy Policy
Effective 6 October 2026
This policy explains what information Couchful (playcouchful.com, “we”) collects when you visit the site or play its games, how it is used, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
What you enter in games
Most games keep what you type, such as player names, answers, scores and settings, in your browser’s localStorage on your own device. It is not sent to us, and clearing this site’s data in your browser removes it.
When you play Same Brain online, the name and answers you enter are sent to our game server so the other players in your room can see them. The server keeps them in memory only while the room is open and does not write them to disk.
Information collected automatically
When you visit, your browser sends technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the page you asked for and the page that linked to it. This information is processed by:
- Cloudflare, which delivers the site and protects it from abuse;
- our web server, which keeps access logs (time, page requested, referring page and browser type) for 14 days. Requests reach it through Cloudflare, so these logs do not contain your IP address;
- Google, when it serves ads and when the Same Brain page loads its typeface from Google Fonts.
Messages you send us
If you email us, we receive your email address and what you write, and use them only to reply.
Cookies and similar technologies
Games use localStorage, as described above, to remember your settings. Advertising partners, including Google, use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure how ads perform and, where permitted, personalise them. A cookie may also store the privacy choices you make on the site.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work as expected if you do.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show ads on this site.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
To learn how Google uses information from sites that show its ads, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before cookies are used to personalise ads, and you can change your choice at any time through the privacy settings link on the site. Where a US state privacy law gives you the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising, you can use the same settings.
How we use information
- to run the games, including online rooms;
- to deliver, secure and fix the site;
- to show ads, which pay for the site;
- to reply to messages you send us.
Where the GDPR or a similar law applies, we rely on your consent for advertising cookies, on our legitimate interest in running and securing the site for logs and security, and on providing the service you ask for when you play online.
Service providers
- Cloudflare: Cloudflare privacy policy
- Google, for AdSense and Google Fonts: Google privacy policy
These providers may process information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Other websites we link to, including advertisers, have their own policies.
How long we keep information
- Web server logs: 14 days.
- Same Brain names and answers: until the room closes.
- Emails: as long as we need them to deal with your message.
- localStorage: on your device until you clear it.
Cloudflare and Google keep the data they process under their own policies.
Children
Couchful is meant for a general audience. Some games include family-friendly or children’s question sets, but the site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information about you, to object to or restrict its use, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data protection authority. To make a request, email us. Most of what you enter in games never reaches us; clearing your browser’s site data removes it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, and our game server accepts connections only through Cloudflare. No method of sending or storing information is completely secure.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we post the new version here and update the effective date.
