A little dog named Biscuit left his bed and went to find his ball. He looked left. He looked right. He looked right under the couch, where there was no ball at all, just one left sock and a very surprised spider.

Biscuit went right out the dog door. He turned left at the flowerpot, right at the fence, and left at the puddle, which he stepped right into, because of course he did.

A bird was sitting on the fence. "Have you seen my ball?" asked Biscuit. The bird looked left. The bird looked right. The bird looked left again. Then the bird flew off to the left without saying a word, which was not very helpful.

A cat was lying in the sun. Biscuit went right up to her. "Have you seen my ball?" The cat opened her left eye, looked right at him, and closed it again. Cats are like that.

So Biscuit looked left. He looked right. He dug a hole on the left and found a stick. He dug a hole on the right and found another stick. He dug a hole right in the middle and found half a sandwich, which he did not tell anyone about.

And then, right at the very back of the yard, under the leaves, he saw something round and red. Biscuit ran left around the tree, right around the bucket, left around the swing, and jumped right on top of it.

It was his ball! He carried it all the way home. Left past the swing. Right past the puddle. Left past the fence. Right past the flowerpot. Then right in through the dog door and straight to his bed.

And there, under his blanket, was his red ball. The one he had left there that morning. So whose ball was in his mouth? Biscuit looked left. He thought about it for one second, then decided he had two balls now, and went to sleep.

Whatever you're holding right now, that one is yours. Even if it's somebody else's ball. Good job, everybody. Good boy, Biscuit.

How to play

Everyone sits in a circle holding a wrapped gift. The reader reads this story out loud. On every left, everybody passes one seat to the left. On every right, one seat to the right. When the story ends, you keep whatever you're holding. More detail, and what to do with a big group, is on the rules page.
